She was a professional potter a special ed teacher a homeowner and land developer who restored an abandoned Colonial in 1975 to its former glory with a woman partner a restaurant and bakery owner (with the same partner, when they needed to pay off the restoration mortgage) a children’s and art magazine publisher and an art gallery owner with the husband she married at age 75. Over her varied and venerable lifetime, she has worn many different hats. Jane is also the author of two books, Dolly: Her Story and The Picnic Basket. Each week I plan to share my thinking in a blog with you.” She notes, “I have the opportunity of looking back and sifting through all of the information acquired over my 96 years and thinking-lots of thinking-about what makes sense in the lives of children. The pandemic will be no different.” So begins a blog post about confidence in children, written earlier this year by our classmate Jane Ruggles Pinel on her website. As a psychologist who grew up during the Great Depression, I know that children will be the ones who will suffer the most. “As we enter the third year of the COVID-19 virus, having experienced record-breaking numbers of cases and record-breaking numbers of deaths, we need to watch for the impact on children.
